Why reviews are crucial for contractors

A painter, electrician or carpenter is rarely found through Google Ads. The typical path: someone searches "painter Zurich", finds three websites — and picks the business with the best reviews. The problem: most contractor websites don't show reviews. The visitor has to check Google themselves. And that's exactly when you lose them — they land on your Google profile, see your competitors right next to you, and start comparing. When your reviews are visible directly on your website, the visitor stays with you. They see real customer voices, build trust and get in touch. Northwestern University's Spiegel Research Center put a number on it: with five reviews, purchase likelihood is 270% higher than for a product with none.

How contractors use SwissTrustWidget

Badge on the homepage

A compact badge right in the hero section: "4.9 stars from 47 reviews". The visitor immediately sees that real customers have had positive experiences. No scrolling needed.

Carousel on the services page

On the page where you list your services, selected reviews rotate automatically. One customer writes about a kitchen renovation, another about a bathroom refit — exactly where it's thematically relevant.

Review cards on the contact page

Right next to the contact form or phone number: 3–5 cards with real customer testimonials. That's the final nudge before someone picks up the phone.

Recommended widget templates

For contractors, we recommend eye-catching, trust-building widget variants.

Badge Compact

For the header or hero section. Shows the average rating and number of reviews at a glance. Takes up little space, still catches the eye.

Carousel

For the homepage or services pages. Displays reviews one at a time, switches automatically. Great for businesses offering a range of services.

Grid (cards)

For the contact or about page. Shows 3–6 reviews side by side as cards. Looks professional and clean.

Slider with photo

If your customers have uploaded photos with their reviews (e.g. a freshly renovated bathroom). Visual proof that says more than any text.

The guide for every website builder: Embed Google reviews on your website

Where Swiss tradespeople get reviewed

Google isn't the only place customers rate a trade business. The decisive difference, though, isn't reach — it's what happens to the reviews once you leave the platform.

PlatformModel for businessesWhat happens to the reviews
Google Business ProfileFree, no subscriptionStay attached to your profile — and can be embedded on your own site
OfriBusinesses pay per referred customer contactStay on the platform (which holds over 60,000 verified reviews)
RenoveroTrade subscription, operated by Swisscom DirectoriesStay on the platform
local.ch / search.chDirectory listing with a review functionStay in the directory
BuildigoReferral platform run by die MobiliarNo longer reachable on its own — buildigo.ch redirects to mobiliar.ch

The difference is not a detail. Reviews on a referral platform belong to that platform: you cannot bring them onto your own website, and they are gone if you cancel the subscription — or if the platform itself disappears. Buildigo shows exactly that: the domain now redirects to mobiliar.ch. Reviews on your Google Business Profile, by contrast, belong to your own listing. They stay when you leave a referral platform, and you may display them on your website. So if you win jobs through Ofri or Renovero, it pays to also ask satisfied customers for a Google review — one does not rule out the other. Details checked on 30 August 2026.

FAQ

Do I need technical skills to embed the widget?

No. You copy a short code snippet and paste it on your website — whether it's WordPress, Jimdo, Wix or another platform. It takes under 2 minutes and is as easy as embedding a YouTube video.

How much does the widget cost?

You can start for free and test the widget. For the version without branding, you pay a one-time fee of CHF 49 — no subscription, no monthly costs. With Elfsight or Trustindex, you pay every month.

Are new reviews displayed automatically?

Yes. SwissTrustWidget continuously syncs with your Google Business Profile. When a customer posts a new review, it appears automatically on your website.

Can I choose which reviews are displayed?

Yes. You can set a minimum star filter — for example, only show reviews with 4 stars or more. Most contractors use this setting.

Does the widget affect my loading time?

No. The widget loads asynchronously — your website renders normally, and the reviews load in parallel. No impact on your PageSpeed score.

Does it work even with few reviews?

Yes. Even with 5 or 10 reviews, the widget is effective. A badge showing "4.9 ★ from 8 reviews" is better than zero reviews on the website. And the more you collect, the stronger the effect.

Is the widget Swiss DPA compliant?

Yes. SwissTrustWidget is a Swiss product that complies with the Swiss Data Protection Act (DPA). No external Google Fonts, no unnecessary trackers, data processing in Switzerland.

Which review platform is worth it for tradespeople in Switzerland?

Referral platforms like Ofri or Renovero bring in enquiries but charge per contact or by subscription — and the reviews stay there. A Google Business Profile costs nothing, the reviews belong to your listing, and you may show them on your own website. In practice the two don't rule each other out: take jobs through a platform, then ask the satisfied customer for a Google review.

How do I get more Google reviews as a trade business?

The most effective moment is right after handover, while the finished work is still in view. A short link by text message or a QR code on the invoice works better than asking over the phone. One caveat: never pay for reviews or offer anything in return — that breaches Google's policies and can get them removed.

What do I do about a bad review?

Reply publicly and factually, without getting defensive. Answering fair criticism calmly and offering a fix often convinces onlookers more than a business with nothing but five-star ratings. Google only removes reviews that breach its policies — abuse or clearly invented experiences, for instance.
