Google Place ID Finder

Search for a business and get its Place ID to copy, plus the link to its Google Maps profile, the review link and a ready-made Places API request. Free and without sign-up, for businesses in Switzerland.

The search finds businesses in Switzerland. If you already have a Place ID or a Google link containing "place_id", paste it to get the matching links.

How the search works: your input goes to our server (Supabase), which passes it on to Google Places; your browser does not query Google itself. We don't store search terms. To prevent abuse, we count requests per IP address for 15 minutes. A pasted Place ID stays in your browser.

How to find the Place ID

Three steps to the Place ID of a business in Switzerland.

  1. 1

    Search for the business

Enter the business name and town, then pick the right listing. For a branch, add the street.

  2. 2

    Copy the Place ID

The ID is at the top of the result. "Copy" puts it on your clipboard, as it does for the Maps link, the review link and the API request.

  3. 3

    Check and use it

Open the Maps link. If Google Maps shows the right business, the ID is correct. Then use it in your widget, plugin or API call.

What is a Place ID?

The Place ID is the identifier Google uses to uniquely identify a place in its Places database and on Google Maps. It exists for most places: businesses, landmarks, parks and intersections. It is made of letters, digits and characters such as "_" or "-", with no fixed length. For businesses it usually starts with "ChIJ", for example ChIJ7QMXJsc5jkcRdcaSO2ngq74 for the Federal Palace in Bern. Google names two ways to find one: the Place ID Finder in its developer documentation and a Text Search request through the Places API. This tool uses the Places search through our server, so you don't need an API key of your own.

What you need the Place ID for

Review link: the Place ID gives you the link that takes customers straight to your review form. The Google review link generator creates the link and a printable QR code. Links to Google Maps: according to Google, the Place ID is the most reliable way to link to a specific business. The tool builds the link in the documented format with "query_place_id". Places API: the API returns details such as name, address, opening hours or reviews based on the Place ID. The request in the result shows the format. Widgets and plugins: some review widgets and WordPress plugins ask for the Place ID to load the right profile. In SwissTrustWidget the business name is enough; Embedding Google reviews shows how the widget gets onto your website.

Why a Place ID can change

Google can change Place IDs when it updates the Google Maps database. If a business closes or moves, its ID can become obsolete; the Places API then answers with "NOT_FOUND". According to Google, the same place can also have several Place IDs. That is why Google recommends refreshing stored IDs that are more than twelve months old. This is free with a Place Details request that asks for the "id" field only. Without the API, check here: search for the business and compare the ID shown with the one you stored.
